or were you expecting it any way?
I did not aim for state rank. I always aim for perfection. State rank was a surprise.
2. Many schools and students start their preparation for the twelfth standard examinations while in
the 11th standard itself. When did you start your preparations for the 12th standard public examinations?
I started my preparations only in my 12th standard. My school teachers covered the entire 11th syllabus which helped me score a better rank in AIEEE.
3. Was the teaching and materials provided by the school sufficient for your preparations or did you
take any special coaching for any of the subjects?
The materials and tests conducted by the management were more than enough.
4. For how many hours per day did you study?
I study 4 hours a day. Somedays it may vary.
5. How was your typical school working day like? How would you allot time for each of your
work?
My school day starts with meditation and prayer - followed by tests most of the time.
6. How was your typical school holiday (weekend etc) like? How would you allot time for each of your
work?
My school teachers asked me to write mock tests during the holidays. They cared for my time more than I cared for it. Thank you, teachers.
7. Did you approach preparation for each of the subject (Language, English, Physics, Chemistry,
Maths, Biology/Computer Science) differently or was your approach the same to each of the subject?
Obviously, the approach was different. Each subject has to be learnt in a different way.
8. If your approach to each of the subjects were different, how did you approach the preparation for
-
a. Language (Tamil) Paper
I used to make grammatical errors in Tamil. My teacher ‘Mrs. Shakunthala’ gave me quick revision notes which were very helpful for the last minute revision. b. English Paper English was quite easy compared to other subjects. Practice papers helped a lot. c. Physics Paper In Physics, one has to write too many tests to get in tune with the text. d. Chemistry Paper Organic Chemistry should be revised regularly to avoid confusions. For objectives, we have to concentrate mainly in the organic side where the chances of losing in objectives is more. e. Mathematics Paper Scoring centum in Maths is easy provided we write many tests ensuring that we are thorough with all the concepts. Book back objectives and COME BOOK objectives have to be practiced atleast twice. f. Biology Paper In Biology, PHYSIOLOGY is the important chapter. Practising diagrams will be helpful. Marking the parts is very much needed than very neat diagrams. And also ‘time management’ is needed to complete the paper on time. 9. How important are handwriting and learning to write speedily in the examinations? Is there
anything that a student can do to improve these two aspects?
In language papers, presentation matters a lot. Learning to write speedily in the examinations will help us for revising our paper after writing.
10. Are there any strict Dos and Donts that you would recommend a student preparing for his or her twelfth standard examinations to adhere to?
First thing, I want to tell the forthcoming students is to ‘DISCOVER THEMSELVES’, set a goal and then start moving towards it. Only if we know the destination, we will lay the track. ALL THE BEST!
11. Did your school identify you as a prospective state rank holder early and give any special attention and coaching? How important is the choice of a school in achieving high marks in the examinations?
Our school management gave individual care to each student. For the top scorers, they made special effort to make us concentrate on the objectives.
12. What was the role of your parents and family in your preparations for your public examinations?
My parents gave me enough freedom. They created a peaceful atmosphere to study. They never compelled me to study. Neither did they compare me with anyone. They trusted me more than I trusted myself.
13. How did you learn about your achieving the state rank in the examinations? What was your reaction when you first heard it?
My joy knew no bounds when I heard my results. The happiest part of it is to see my parents very proud of me.
14. Did you have any time to play any sport, pursue any hobby during your preparation for the public examination?
Yes, I used to hear songs during my preparations.
15. Your life must have changed after achieving the state rank. You must be busy receiving lot of congratulatory messages, awards, recognitions etc. Could you tell your experience since the results were released?
I was really happy when my relatives, friends and many others called me and shared their happiness with me. I met may many VIPs. And these days are really a wonderful moments to cherish.
16. Are there any special people you would like to thank for your achievement?
I want to thank my school correspondent Dr.L.M. Ramakrishnan, Aruna madam, Principal and all my teachers. I specially want to thank Nagaraj sir, Thiruchelvam sir, Mathialagan sir, Kanagatchalam sir, Karthiyayini madam, Sagunthala madam and Pamela madam who gave me words of encouragements which helped me achieve this crown of success.
17. Tell us about your family.
I am the only child in my family. My father is a businessman. My mother is working as a Junior Engineer in TNEB. Inspite of their busy working schedules, they spend a lot of time with me sharing light moments and enjoying ourselves.
18. What course have you chosen to pursue after your twelfth standard?
I have chosen B.E. (ECE).
19. Finally, what is your advise to the students who would be taking their public examinations shortly?
Write many tests which helps you to be confident. Solve PTA questions which will be useful. Believe in yourselves.
