My 12th marks are my first achievements
1. Congratulations on getting the state rank in the HSC examinations. Was it a surprise when it came
or were you expecting it any way?
Yes, it was really a surprise to me. I did not expect it. I aimed to score four centums (Maths, Physics, Chemistry,
Biology). It was a little disappointment for me that I missed centum in Biology. But, it was God's Grace which
helped to score state rank.
2. Many schools and students start their preparation for the twelfth standard examinations while in
the 11th standard itself. When did you start your preparations for the 12th standard public examinations?
I started my 12th standard preparation since from the middle of 11th standard. It's enough to start preparation
in 12th standard. Because, I started my sincere preparation only in the 12th standard.
3. Was the teaching and materials provided by the school sufficient for your preparations or did you
take any special coaching for any of the subjects?
The materials provided by my teachers in the school is sufficient for my preparations. There is no need of any
special coaching. Book is the main material.
4. For how many hours per day did you study?
For nearly 13 hours per day, I used to study with proper relaxation time.
5. How was your typical school working day like? How would you allot time for each of your
work?
Since I stayed in hostel, it helped me greatly for me to follow correct timetable. In morning 5 to 6:30 am is
study hours. Our school time is 7:00 am to 8:00 pm. At night study hours is 8:45 pm to 10:15 pm.
6. How was your typical school holiday (weekend etc) like? How would you allot time for each of your
work?
In the holidays, I will finish my works (given by my teachers) and I will take rest. It will be greatly helpful
for studies in other days. Taking rest is very useful for proper studies. I will also read story books or some
useful books.
7. Did you approach preparation for each of the subject (Language, English, Physics, Chemistry,
Maths, Biology/Computer Science) differently or was your approach the same to each of the subject?
Yes, I paid special attention towards Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology. Because, we can easily score
centums in the four subjects.
8. If your approach to each of the subjects were different, how did you approach the preparation for
-
a. Language (Tamil) Paper
I pay attention towards language paper only in the time alloted by school. In the study hours, I used to study Part III subjects. b. English Paper I used to pay attention to grammar parts. In English, scoring marks in grammar is very important for getting marks in essays. For essays, our own writing is better for scoring marks. c. Physics Paper In physics, special attention has to be paid for one words and problems. Diagrams are important. Arrow marks should be marked properly. d. Chemistry Paper In Chemistry, one marks play a prominent role. Understanding the subject is very important for answering one marks. e. Mathematics Paper In Maths, solving the problems several times will help to do better. f. Biology Paper In Biology also, one marks has a vital role for scoring high marks. Repeated reading of lessons will help more to score marks. 9. How important are handwriting and learning to write speedily in the examinations? Is there
anything that a student can do to improve these two aspects?
Actually my handwriting will not be nice. I think, matter is very important for scoring high marks. Keen listening and
understanding will help much for scoring marks.
10. Are there any strict Dos and Donts that you would recommend a student preparing for his or her twelfth standard examinations to adhere to?
Read the subjects with understanding, don't just memorise it. Dont think that handwriting alone will help for
scoring high marks; handwriting only is not necessary, matter is also very important.
Don't hesitate to ask doubts. Clear your doubts then and there. Don't hate teachers, teachers will help a lot for our studies. Interest in the subject will pay for us. 11. Did your school identify you as a prospective state rank holder early and give any special attention and coaching? How important is the choice of a school in achieving high marks in the examinations?
Choice of a school is very important for achieving high marks in the examinations. A good surrounding will
be provided by a good school. My school expected me for scoring four centums. But, unfortunately, I missed one
Centum.
12. What was the role of your parents and family in your preparations for your public examinations?
My parents helped me more to score high marks. They infused a spirit in me to achieve it.
13. How did you learn about your achieving the state rank in the examinations? What was your reaction when you first heard it?
I heard it from a phone call from my teachers. I didn't know what to do. My joy knew no bounds.
14. Did you have any time to play any sport, pursue any hobby during your preparation for the public examination?
Actually, I have no interest towards sports. My favourite hobby is reading story books. During the time of
public examination, in the leisure time, I will take rest. If I have a chance, I will read story books provided
by my friends.
15. Your life must have changed after achieving the state rank. You must be busy receiving lot of congratulatory messages, awards, recognitions etc. Could you tell your experience since the results were released?
I am unable to explain it. There are no words for explaining my happiness. Eventhough I am very happy, I will think
whether I'm fit for such recognition. It was possible because of God's grace.
16. Are there any special people you would like to thank for your achievement?
Yes, first of all, I thank my parents, teachers and my correspondents. My teachers are

Her name is K.C. Catherine Sheena. She is doing her III Standard.
18. What course have you chosen to pursue after your twelfth standard?
I like to do MBBS expecially in Madras Medical College (MMC). I want to do service to old and poor people
in our country.
19. Finally, what is your advise to the students who would be taking their public examinations shortly?
Try to understand each and every line in the books. Don't believe in market guides. Book is our main source.
