1. Congratulations on getting the state rank in the HSC examinations. Was it a surprise when it came or were you expecting it?
I was expecting State First Rank when the results were announced. But it was a surprise and little bit disappointment that I got State Third Rank . I was pleased to get your letter. Thanks for your wishes.

2. Many schools and students start their preparation for the twelfth standard examinations while in the 11th standard itself. When did you start your preparations for the 12th standard public examinations?
It's not very necessary to prepare thoroughly the syllabus of XII when we're in XI. If so we might have skipped some XI portions in hurry burry. Moreover skipped of XI portions is not advisable. They are as important as XII portions. A strong basic knowledge of XI started preparing for my board exams from April 2006 onwards and finished in the month of December 2006 itself.

3. Was the teaching and materials provided by the school sufficient for your preparations or did you take any special coaching for any of the subjects?
My SIV School and her teaching and study materials was very enough for me to get state rank. Rather my School's teaching and materials were excellent to produce toppers every year, of course, SIVMHSS Conducted Coaching classes for school toppers and teachers enabled us by providing printing materials like maximum possible twisted objectives to which we were in need of scoring 800/800 in subjects.

4. For how many hours per day did you study?
Just only 3 hours. But in those hrs I had my complete concentration in my studies and exams. In my point of view, fully concentrated and sincere and fulfilled intelligent work of study is enough to score top marks. Toiling over night is futile since the sleepless night spoils the next budding day by hitting memory to repair and causing physical tiredness.

5. How was your typical school working day like? How would you allot time for each of your work?
24 hours a day and 7 days per week was adequate for all routine works on school days. School working days were well planned without light schedule particularly for all exams including midterms & weekly tests. My teachers provided sufficient days for revision after they had completed the portions well in advance. Regular classes and special coaching classes were conducted daily by all language and subject teachers and professors. My school days were like the boat on river shifting towards goal.

6. How was your typical school holiday (weekend etc) like? How would you allot time for each of your work?
I planned for the weekend holidays with my friends but not for a picnic. We got together only for group discussion of particular topic related to any of my subjects. Psychologically students hate getting heavy assignments in the week ends. Understanding this, my teachers, they never overloaded us by heavy assignments. Even then there was no difference between working days and holidays since I enjoyed the process of learning. Further holidays fetched me enough time to have quick revision of my subjects. I would plan what to do in those days allotting time to all of my works and duties. I never postponed any of them. Punctuality pays.

7. Did you approach preparation for each of the subject (Language, English, Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Biology/Computer Science) differently or was your approach the same to each of the subject?
My approach was different for different subjects, language cultivates heart while science cultivates brain. So there should be two different methods of approaches in learning process, language stands for appreciation whereas science are for understanding. Continuity is not needed in the languages learning from class to class whereas learning science is a continuous process. But there were some common ideas. For both science & language, we need the basis skill like learning, writing, so I follow structure I approach towards languages. Vocabulary plays a major toke. But practical approaches to science subjects where practical experience stands first.

8. If your approach to each of the subjects were different, how did you approach the preparation for -
a. Language (Tamil) Paper

First of all, I had a wide range of vocabulary. I tried preparing answers in my own style and language. Further neat handwriting and presentation helped me to score more. I had references from lots of Tamil books related to topics. Underlining or specifying important words/ points is very important while writing answers. Time management is necessary in studies and also in exams. I had prepared the format of answers for all questions which made me easy to study and refer skill of usage of words played a good role to score 99 and 94 from various books will be very helpful to score in Tamil.

b. English Paper

I depend not only on my school books but also some grammar books to answer all one marks correctly. I read the lessons and listed out the Synonyms and Antonyms. High standard vocabulary, grammar played the best role in paper I. For example a 6th std boy uses a word chance but a high standard boy must choose another word to suit the same as to his level like opportunity. I gave suitable references and titles, subtitles for essays. Creativity fetched me more marks in paper II. I referred many essay books which made me English easy to learn.

c. Physics Paper

I followed the blue print of all subjects and allotted my study time as per the question paper format. I concentrated on problems to score full marks which also saved my time in exams. I related my subject with day to day science. I prepared complete & perfect answers for all questions asked in exam papers including one mark problems and questions of mind boggling complexity. I used in converse method for objectives. I wrote several test to train me well to get top marks.

d. Chemistry Paper

I practiced hit and trial method to balance equation at first which then I remember for next time very easily. Equations must be fulfilled with specified conditions if required. (Temperature, Pressure, Catalyst). I understood chemistry very well instead of byhearting.

Example of Inconverse method is :
Fog is example of liquid in gas. But how other choices are different & Frame questions for such choices, like wise problems are easy to do, better to score worth to save time. Regular revision is very important in reading chemistry.

e. Mathematics Paper

Maths is the easiest subject to work out and tackle the problems. Not by imposition maths can be learnt. The formulae were listed out in a separate note and quite often asked questions were well practiced by me. I never skipped any steps while performing the sums and theorems. As we do sums, we are familiarised with answers. The defined signs and symbols. reasons must be specified at last not to lose even one mark. Drawing diagrams is very important in maths.

f. Biology Paper

I love biology very much as it is amusing to deal with flora and fauna and erratic human species. Practical approach gave one 200 in Biology and the credit goes to my SIV Principal Bio-Master Mr.C.Pauldurai. We viscialise all colourful dissections and microscopic sections in Biology. Regular reading in Zoology and Practice of diagrams in Botany will only save time in exams. Perfect and Botany will only save time in exams. Perfect and complete answers not in words but in points will give full marks surely.

9. How important are handwriting and learning to write speedily in the examinations? Is there anything that a student can do to improve these two aspects?
Legible and Neat handwriting which impress the examiner may help us to score more marks not in all subjects but in languages particularly. I would take more care on my handwriting when I attend my language papers than the other papers. The revision tests conducted by my SIV School helped me to improve my handwriting and speed of writing so it is very important to get the things in writing practice. I didn't care of writing speedily but to joint down all the points within the stipulated time.

10. Are there any strict Dos and Donts that you would recommend a student preparing for his or her twelfth standard examinations to adhere to?
Yes. The Do's are:

1. Keep balanced diet and maintain physically fit & healthy body.
2. The habit of Regular reading & keep touch with the topic.
3. Early to bed and early to bud.
4. Attend all the questions as per choice given.
5. Time management, full-pledged learning process.
6. Self-confidence and be cool anytime.
7. Discuss the topics in precise manner to fast learning and speedy writing.

The Don'ts are:

1. Avoid irrelevant answer.
2. Avoid the Eleventh hour preparation.
3. Mugging up.
4. Cuts and over writings.
5. Toiling overnight.
6. Avoid sitting continuously on table with books for hours.
7. Exam fear. I always approach the exams. I never allowed the exams to approach me.
11. Did your school identify you as a prospective state rank holder early and give any special attention and coaching? How important is the choice of a school in achieving high marks in the examinations?
All the teacher of my school from primary to higher secondary, they identified me as prospective rank holder earlier. Accordingly special attention was given by all teachers including my English mam Mallikeshwari, Tamil miss Jayabharathi and Maths master A. Duraisamy since they have been working for my SIV since its inception (1969). My SIV School has sufficient and efficient teachers. Only if the school gets state rank. it impresses the forth coming students to get higher marks than the former. So the choice of school is very important. My school excels both in academic and sportive scholars labs including English & Science labs. Every year many of my school students reach the pinnacle of glory by receiving many laurels in sports & other games. Further my school being in eco-friendly environment, had got possessing all necessary books in all fields from Ptolemy's atlas till recent Harry Potter books.

12. What was the role of your parents and family in your preparations for your public examinations?
My parents and family backed me up in every situation. They provided whatever I need either food or fruits. They bought UPS for me to overcome the frequent power cuts. They sanctified some of their routine entertainment like watching TVs. Parental care had indeed taken me to the top of pride because of their love which everyone could not have. They allotted me a separate study room. They gave me many reference and practice books for all subjects.

13. How did you learn about your achieving the state rank in the examinations? What was your reaction when you first heard it?
I would like to say this: When somebody asked an Artist which was his best painting he had ever painted the Artist replied that his next painting would be the best painting. So I learned that this was not a great achievement just a step. I want to be the best in the state or where I am From this, I learned that sky is my limit. It's all the blessings of my parents and teachers of my SIV school besides Lord Vishnu which took me to this achievements. I would thank them a lot. When I heard my rank, I was very much disappointed and angered but then I was satisfied with what I got because it would turn to be greediness.

14. Did you have any time to play any sport, pursue any hobby during your preparation for the public examination?
Yes, I hold some time to play chess during my preparation for exams. But I was not interested in them as it was only for relaxation. I took care in playing outdoor games because they may sometimes injure us. I did not spend much of my time in any sport or hobby as they would sometimes deviate or deflect us from goals.

15. Your life must have changed after achieving the state rank. You must be busy receiving lot of congratulatory messages, awards, recognitions etc. Could you tell your experience since the results were released?
First I experienced disappointment, then anger of not setting first rank, then pacified thoughts which implied me that this was not a great achievement but only a step. So, I had an exaggerating experience with extravagant collector of my district Coimbatore Mr. Niraj Mital. Then Honourable DIG of Mr.Sylendra Babu. I received the congratulatory message from Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Doctor Kalaygnar. Mr. M. Karunanidi in Secretariat on 23rd May 2007. That's a wonderful ture with the greatest noble man of TN. Raj TV the people's channel took me with my family a three day trip rounding Chennai including Airforce & Navy Coast guard, meeting with TN. Governor Honourable Surjith Singh Barnala and I received Mudalvan award from Dr. P. Chidambaram Honourable Finance Minister of India and Mr.K. Ponmudi, Honourable Minister of Higher Education and various other populars assembled in a single stage at kalaivanar Arangam on 28th July 2007.

16. Are there any special people you would like to thank for your achievement?
I would like to thank the former president of India Dr..A.P.J.Abdul Kalam for my achievement. He and his thoughts were still in the pink of health. His books 'Wings of Fire' and "India 2020" gave me a lot of encouragement because he laid his complete confidence over student's enthralling power. Besides I would also like to thank my SIVAMHSS, School staffs and teacher for my achievement.

17. Tell us about your family.
I am the younger sibling to my parents Sri. R. Vasudevan and Mrs. S. Jothimani. My sister V. Kumudam pursue her higher studies B.E. in BITS and my father is a well experienced, renowned LIC Agent and my mum is a noon meal organiser besides she looks after kitchen gardening and Post Office agent. My residence is A-103, Rayon Nagar, Sirumugai, Mettupalayam Taluk.

18. What course have you chosen to pursue after your twelfth standard?
When my teachers were asking what I would do further after my board exams during counseling classes, I simply said to them that I would become an eminent doctor. Then they made me to understand that medicine is a vast pool of knowledge and I am quite interested in pursuing my career as Doctor. Joseph Lister being a Doctor, found the medicine to cure Rabies, Likewise I would also find any new inventory medicine in case of chance of winning a Noble prize in Medicine. I would prefer Higher speiciality courses in cardiology or in ortho.

19. Finally, what is your advise to the students who would be taking their public examinations shortly?
I advise students that they shall not think +2 exams as just exams but they are the future deciding berries. They may fall off in your hands or you must pick them or they may be somewhere in branches according to your work and studies. Also the students must approach the exams and they shall not allow the exams to approach them. Avoid Niagara Syndrome. You must practice swimming against the current of water or you may fall from top of falls and collapse then. Plan well, practice then, work intelligently, have systematic approach, pray for the best to happen yourselfs, confidently write exams and enjoy your moments after wards.
