1. Congratulations on getting the state rank in the HSC examinations. Was it a surprise when it came
or were you expecting it?
We expected state rank totalwise. But scoring State I (200/200) in all 4 prime subjects was a pleasant surprise
2. Many schools and students start their preparation for the twelfth standard examinations while in
the 11th standard itself. When did you start your preparations for the 12th standard public examinations?
We started as per the government schedule. Right from Day 1, I was keen regarding my steady preparations to face the XII state board exams.
3. Was the teaching and materials provided by the school sufficient for your preparations or did you
take any special coaching for any of the subjects?
The teaching provided by the school was more than sufficient. Teachers were available round the clock to clarify my doubts as I was in a boarding school
4. For how many hours per day did you study?
Usually, my regular study duration is 5 hours. In the weekends, I made use of the leisure time too.
5. How was your typical school working day like? How would you allot time for each of your
work?
The morning study hours were from 5 to 7. School tuitions were conducted twice a day - at morning 8:30 to 9:45 - and evening 5:00 to 6:30, for written practice. Night study hours were from 7:30 to 10:30 pm
6. How was your typical school holiday (weekend etc) like? How would you allot time for each of your
work?
I made use of the weekends to get my doubts cleared and also to complete and revise that week's portions comprehensively. I paid a little extra attention for those portions which were considered difficult or given commendable weightage.
7. Did you approach preparation for each of the subject (Language, English, Physics, Chemistry,
Maths, Biology/Computer Science) differently or was your approach the same to each of the subject?
It was evidently different for each subject
8. If your approach to each of the subjects were different, how did you approach the preparation for
-
a. Language (French) Paper
As per the guidance of my teachers. In addition, if not more, equal attention was to be given since language
marks are the ultimate score deciders. My First language was French which is almost akin to English. A good
vocabulary in English will definitely help students score more in French
b. English Paper
Clean, simple presentation will fetch you good marks in English, as for any other subject. Scoring full marks in objectives is easy if you are thorough with the text book. A good vocabulary with a legible handwriting is an added advantage. Regular practice in "Application & Life Skills" will aid us score more.
c. Physics Paper
- For Objectives: Be thorough with each line in the text book. Careful with units
- For Problems: Don't memorise the steps. Understanding alone will help you retain the sum. Highlight the formulae and units. Derive the steps coherently
- For 3 mark ans: Don't end your answer with the exact definition or anything of that sort. Try to add a few relevant points
- For 5 mark ans: Concentrate on diagrams, circuits, signs
- For 10 mark ans: Divide the big answer into paragraphs. Give suitable headings. Draw diagrams in between. Put the answer in points. No excuse, learn the full text book.
d. Chemistry Paper
- For Objectives: Be thorough with all chemistry formulae, experiment conditions like temp, catalyst, extraction of metals, electronic configurations; Be thorough with book-back questions
- For 3 mark ans: Attend and choose questions like reasoning, tabulation, differentiate, comparision, mechanisms, points
- For 5 mark ans: In general, 'Organic' questions consume less time. And even problems. Go through all the worked out examples
- For 10 mark ans: Again, going by the 'blueprint' will help only for revision, not for preparations. Choose questions that will be easy to present and score. Don't cut short the answers. Be thorough with "preparation of compounds" that will help you attend Q.No.70
e. Mathematics Paper
- For Objectives: Concentrate on the book back questions. Note down key results and revise them frequently. Go through the Deleted portions also and understand the results
- For 6 mark ans: Follow the steps in the book. Choose questions like "Prove that ..., show that ... verify". Don't forget to draw figures. Mark the axes, arrows, notations clearly
- For 10 mark ans: Present the steps orderly. Note down the compulsory problem properly. Always pay attention regarding question numbers
f. Biology Paper
Botony: Give prior attention for diagrams in 1st two chapters. Revise 'families' very often. Keep practising 'cycles'. Dont commit mistakes in nomenclature, years of discovery, scientists, chemical compounds Zoology: Comparative study will help us learn 'Applied Biology' easily. Chapters 2,3,4,7 are easy to be revised. Don't change the bookwords/key points in E.V.S. Pay attention for Biology from the beginning. Everyday studies alone will help
9. How important are handwriting and learning to write speedily in the examinations? Is there
anything that a student can do to improve these two aspects?
Handwriting need not be beautiful but has to be clear and legible. Speed is the most crucial criterion as time management decides your day. Regular writing practice will help us improve our speed. More than the handwriting. presentation matters. Think from the evaluator's point of view and present your paper - so that it is easy for them to correct.
10. Are there any strict Dos and Donts that you would recommend a student preparing for his or her twelfth standard examinations to adhere to?
For prepartions, don't omit any single para in any of the books. Write and verify whatever you have learnt. Correct your mistakes and learn from them. Read the question paper once fully as soon as you get it. Don't fret. Be stable. Think before you write an answer. Don't strike or scribble. Be careful with your registration number, question number, option number. Put the page no. to avoid last minute tension.
Make the most out of the time given to you. Don't miss to write to write any answers. If you are thorough, you'll be confident which in turn will speeden your writing. Highlight the key points. The paper need not look colourful. You can use the same blue pen to underline, in case you don't find time. Don't enter the exam hall, without at least 1 revision. Mind your health. Sleep at least 5 hours before the day of the exam. Don't keep learning till the last minute. Draw margins. Be spacious between words and lines. Clear your colleagues doubts. Prefer group studies only to discuss objectives. Take healthy food. Plan your work.
11. Did your school identify you as a prospective state rank holder early and give any special attention and coaching? How important is the choice of a school in achieving high marks in the examinations?
I've been the school topper since I joined in 11th standard. My teachers always inspired and encouraged me. It is always the individual's interest. My teachers always helped me with my doubts and gave me better ideas of revision and presentation. My headmaster and directors regularly monitored my progress and insisted me to keep going. They always boosted my morale and counselled me a lot. They were indeed very supporting.
The school environment definitely matters. It should be clean, hygienic, serene and peaceful. I was blessed with one such. It is enough that you're attentive in the class and prepare the daily portions. Other outside tuitions are not necessary.
12. What was the role of your parents and family in your preparations for your public examinations?
My parents are my role models. They have always been by my side. There is not a single thing that they've denied to me. They held me in high regards. They are more concerned about my health than anything else. They used to write to me, which used to be so inspiring and kindling. My family always prays for me. They are always behind my success. My sisters are vibrant and whenever they speak to me. I think even I become activated and ignited. My mother was with me during the board exams to extend her moral support, leaving her practice, at my home town.
13. How did you learn about your achieving the state rank in the examinations? What was your reaction when you first heard it?
On the day the results were released, I came to know my marks through the Internet. But a clear picture of the other achievements, I learnt from the newspapers, the next day. I was delighted. I shared that moment of joy with my parents, cousins and relatives. I thanked God.
14. Did you have any time to play any sport, pursue any hobby during your preparation for the public examination?
I have the practice of meditation and regular prayers which helped me stay cool and collected. I like reading newspapers (will help us keep updated). Good music soothes our souls. A light warm-up during the hectic study schedule will restore your energy. Short walks during the early mornings and evenings will be a certain refreshments. I play Table Tennis when at home. In hostel, we don't have such facilities. During the weekends, interested students can play Volleyball, shuttle cock etc.
15. Your life must have changed after achieving the state rank. You must be busy receiving lot of congratulatory messages, awards, recognitions etc. Could you tell your experience since the results were released?
I'm happy that there are so many persons feeling happy for my success. It is entirely the Almighty's Grace. I felt thankful to all my teachers. My parents were too happy. My sisters' happiness knew no bounds. All my friends are glad about this feat. This is such an enthralling experience. Seriously, I'm at a loss of words.
16. Are there any special people you would like to thank for your achievement?
I'm greatly indebted to the whole SRV family for having helped me achieve this feat. My parents, my relatives, my friends at school. My hostelmates, all my well wishers are all to be thanked from the bottom of my heart. I thank the Almighty for having blessed me with such great people around. Without them all, it would have been literally impossible.
17. Tell us about your family.
My father, Dr.S. Sahubar Sadique, is a neurlogist. He is my role model. My mother, Dr.Safeeka cleverly rides two horses at a time - family and profession. I'm the first child of my family. My sister Fayiqah.S is entering Class 10 and my younger sister Jumana Haseen is entering Class 8. They are both studying at National Acadmey School, Ramnad.
18. What course have you chosen to pursue after your twelfth standard?
My childhood ambition is to become a doctor, like my parents. I would like to specialise in Diabetology. After completing my UG in Medicine, I'm interested in doing Civil Services also. But my first and foremost aim is to serve the society as a good doctor.
19. Finally, what is your advise to the students who would be taking their public examinations shortly?
"Tough Times Never Last, But Tough People Do!" The path to success is not always smooth. So be mentally tough enough to withstand any obstacle that might come your way. Resist tempatations. If you take care of the minutes, the hours will take care of you. Do not waste time in gossip or idle talks. Plan your work. Work hard. Success is a certainty. Trust in God. Wish you all a great success!
