or were you expecting it any way?
Thank you. No, it was not a surprise when it came. I was expecting this state rank. My parents and teachers
were very confident that I would get the state rank. God has really gifted this state rank to me on seeing my
hardwork and my parents' and teachers' copious encouragement.
2. Many schools and students start their preparation for the twelfth standard examinations while in
the 11th standard itself. When did you start your preparations for the 12th standard public examinations?
I started my 12th standard preparations only after the 11th standard portions were over. Many chapters in 12th
standard are the continuation of 11th standard portion. Only if we understand the 11th standard concepts very well,
We can understand the 12th standard portions clearly.
3. Was the teaching and materials provided by the school sufficient for your preparations or did you
take any special coaching for any of the subjects?
The teaching materials provided by my school were more than sufficient. I have written nearly 15 full portion tests
in all subjects. In addition to this, I have written many periodical class tests. I didn't take any special
coaching for any subject.
4. For how many hours per day did you study?
I used to study for six hours a day.
Morning: 4:00 am - 6:00 am Evening: 5:00 pm - 10:00 pm with one hour break 5. How was your typical school working day like? How would you allot time for each of your
work?
My school timing is between 7:00 am - 3:00 pm. This timing was so good that I was fresh and energetic during
the early morning. I don't allot any specific time for each subject. I will learn and write and see the taught
portions on the same day.
6. How was your typical school holiday (weekend etc) like? How would you allot time for each of your
work?
I had no holiday. We had classes even on sundays. But if we had holiday at times, my teachers used to give HOME TEST.
So after learning the test portions thoroughly, I would write the test sincerely. If I had time, I used to revise the
portions taught in that week.
7. Did you approach preparation for each of the subject (Language, English, Physics, Chemistry,
Maths, Biology/Computer Science) differently or was your approach the same to each of the subject?
I gave equal importance for all subjects so as to get the state rank. I felt 'Biology' hard than all subjects in
12th standard. So, I allotted more time to learn Biology than all other subjects.
8. If your approach to each of the subjects were different, how did you approach the preparation for
-
a. Language (Tamil) Paper
I maintained a separate note for Tamil, wherein which I wrote the answers for the exercise questions given at the back of every chapter after learning the answers thoroughly. My Tamil teacher "Mrs.Malathi" would correct the answers and give me a report. I would do the corrections. Moreover, this practice helped me to write faster during the exams. I improved my presentation, following my teacher's instructions. As far as Tamil I is concerned, I used to write and see the quotes. b. English Paper I maintained a test note for English wherein which I would write many full portion tests. I have written nearly 15 tests in English I and 10 tests in English II. I used to prepare myself with the guides available in our school library for one words. I maintained a "synonym-antonym" note in which I used to write the meanings and opposites for all the tough words in the English text book. c. Physics Paper I maintained a separate problem note for physics. My physics teacher used to give me a lot of one word questions to solve and those were really helfpul. I gave equal importance for all chapters. Some students felt that it is enough to only read the 9th and 10th chapters in Physics. But, if we learn these two chapters thoroughly like all other chapters, there is a chance of attending the small questions asked in 10 marks. d. Chemistry Paper I used to write and see the equations and work out many organic problems. Some students feel that organic Chemistry is very tough. Only if we understand the concepts very well, we can do our best in Organic Chemistry. There is a chance of attending the uses of Organic Chemistry in 1 mark only if we concentrate on the uses also. But many students fail to do so. e. Mathematics Paper My Maths teacher used to solve all the problems given in the Maths text, whether it may be an exercise or example problem. He used to teach 7 or 8 problems every day. So, it was easy for us to solve and see the problems on the same day itself. I used to solve the one word problems given at the end of the book. I also used to solve the one word problems given in the "PTA-COME BOOK". Writing repeated tests helped me to do my Maths paper without mistakes. f. Biology Paper Regarding Biology, only repeated learning and writing will help to do it better. HUMAN PSYCHOLOGY is the toughest chapter in zoology because only if we learn it repeatedly, we can remember it. Otherwise, it will easily be erased from our memory. 9. How important are handwriting and learning to write speedily in the examinations? Is there
anything that a student can do to improve these two aspects?
Handwriting is more important for the language papers to score more. One can learn speedily by understanding the
concepts very well. If ones handwriting is not so good, he can make his paper look neat by leaving enough space
between every word and every sentence.
10. Are there any strict Dos and Donts that you would recommend a student preparing for his or her twelfth standard examinations to adhere to?
Dos
1) Write as many tests as possible. This will not only help you to write fastly, but will also help you to avoid mistakes 2) Do concentrate on problems and diagrams 3) Write and see the definitions, derivations Donts 1) Do not postpone learning because "Procastination is the thief of time" 2) Do not watch TV. If you have leisure time, just close your eyes and relax 11. Did your school identify you as a prospective state rank holder early and give any special attention and coaching? How important is the choice of a school in achieving high marks in the examinations?
Yes, my school identified me as a prospective state rank holder early and gave me special tests and many
home tests. I think it is better if one continues higher secondary in the best school possible because they
will have many efficient teachers and imporved and difference sets of questions.
12. What was the role of your parents and family in your preparations for your public examinations?
My native place is puliangudi. My school is in Ilanji. The travelling time is nearly 1.5 hours. Understanding
my inconvenience, my father shifted my home near my school and my father used to travel daily. My mother
used to pray to god very sincerely for me and she also didn't see the TV for two years. My sisters and my
parents used to keep on encouraging me that I would get the state rank. I used to ask my doubts in Chemistry from
my father.
13. How did you learn about your achieving the state rank in the examinations? What was your reaction when you first heard it?
I learnt very sincerely from the first in X Matric Exam. I lost the state rank. So I learnt with more effort and
dedication. God has really gifted me the State I rank to me. so I thank Him. When I first saw my name in the news,
my parents felt extremely happier than me. At once, we thanked God.
14. Did you have any time to play any sport, pursue any hobby during your preparation for the public examination?
I didn't have time for pursuing my hobby. Whenever I get leisure time, I just close my eyes and relax.
15. Your life must have changed after achieving the state rank. You must be busy receiving lot of congratulatory messages, awards, recognitions etc. Could you tell your experience since the results were released?
As soon as the +2 results were declared, I went to my school and met my teachers and thanked them. Then, I
met the CEO and got an award and then I met the State Bank Manager, the Collector, the SP followingly. I felt
extremely thankful to my principal, my teachers and God especially.
16. Are there any special people you would like to thank for your achievement?
I would like to thank my VI standard class teacher Mr.Balasubramanian, who helped me to improve my handwriting
and my VII standard class teacher Mrs.Lakhsmi who used to encourage me by saying that I show a ray of hope of
getting a state rank. I would also like to thank my X standard chemistry teacher Mrs.Maya Subburaj for having
given me copious encouragement. At this juncture, I would like to express my gratitude to my Arun School teachers,
Mrs.Subbulakhsmi, Mrs.Elsie.
17. Tell us about your family.
Father: R.Balasubramanian, B.Sc., B.Ed., - Khadi Manager, Puliangudi
Mother: B.Jeyalakshmi - Home Maker Sisters: 1) B.Shenbaga Devi BE in VPMM Engineering College, Srivilliputur 2) B.Maheswari D.T.Ed, in Theroor, Nagercoil 18. What course have you chosen to pursue after your twelfth standard?
I want to pursue MBBS course after my XII standard because I have the aim of doing "Stem Cell Research" after
completing my MBBS degree.
19. Finally, what is your advise to the students who would be taking their public examinations shortly?
Please keenly observe what your teachers teach and only then the learning becomes easier. Write and see the taught
portions after learning thoroughly. Only hten, you can avoid the mistakes in the exams. Write as many tests as
possible. Don't postpone doing things. ALL THE BEST!
