1. Congratulations on getting the state rank in the HSC examinations. Was it a surprise when it came
or were you expecting it any way?
I had done all my exams very well - so I was expecting state rank. By God's grace, I got it. So I was very happy.
2. Many schools and students start their preparation for the twelfth standard examinations while in
the 11th standard itself. When did you start your preparations for the 12th standard public examinations?
Our school is a government aided school. So in 11th std, we were studying only 11th portions till April 2007. After 11th annual exams, from June 2007, we were studying 12th portions. So I was not preparing 12th portions from 11th. I started only from June 2007.
3. Was the teaching and materials provided by the school sufficient for your preparations or did you
take any special coaching for any of the subjects?
The teaching materials provided by the school was sufficient for me. So I didn't take any special coaching.
4. For how many hours per day did you study?
I would study 6 hours per day daily sincerely in home - other than in school.
5. How was your typical school working day like? How would you allot time for each of your
work?
My school timing from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. In home, I would study from 6 pm to 12 am. I would like to do only night study.
6. How was your typical school holiday (weekend etc) like? How would you allot time for each of your
work?
In the weekend, I used to prepare a time-table for my study hours - how to spend the holidays usefully. I used to revise that one week portion in the weekend and I would write home tests.
7. Did you approach preparation for each of the subject (Language, English, Physics, Chemistry,
Maths, Biology/Computer Science) differently or was your approach the same to each of the subject?
I gave equal importance to all subjects but my approach was different for each subject.
8. If your approach to each of the subjects were different, how did you approach the preparation for
-
a. Language (Tamil) Paper
I had taken Tamil as my first language. I daily studied Tamil atleast 45 minutes. I used to write all memory poems. I collected some proverbs and quotes for my non-detailed essays. I avoided overwriting and spelling mistakes. I gave importance to handwriting and presentation. b. English Paper For English, first I gave importance to grammar and book exercise. We have to become familiar with our entire text book. For prose essays, we can quote some lines from our lesson. In poetry, we can write our poem lesson lines and explanation. We have to revise the entire glossary. Practising more exercises help to score more marks in grammar section. Read non-detailed chapters carefully and detailly. c. Physics Paper We have to listen to the physics class more attentively. We have to learn the entire book thoroughly so that we wont lose even 1 mark. We can write and see all derivations and important questions. We have to write the answers as given in the text book. We have to study the lessons as many times as possible so that it will be fixed in our mind. We should practise the diagrams. We should practise problems. For this, we can write the formula near the problem in the book. We have to give attention to minute things which will lead to lose our mark. d. Chemistry Paper For Chemistry, we have to concentrate in the one mark side. For Organic Chemistry, in the book, if there is IUPAC name, we can write the common name and vice versa. We can write and see the quations. We have to understand the concepts and then study. We can take notes and then prepare some flow charts for some reactions. Tabulate the properties of metals and study it will be easy at revision. Write manny tests. Complete all important questions properly. e. Mathematics Paper The slogan for mathematics is 'PRACTISE MAKES PERFECT'. Working out all the exercise and example problems before every exam - even before class test. At the backside of the note, we can write the formulas in each chapter it will be useful for revision. We have to do a lot of model question papers and lat year Question papers. In each chapter, there will be some note it is also very important for 1 mark. For objective, we can refer the PTA book for extra. In the exam paper, we have to show all the steps for the problem. Dont skip any step. Use the formula correctly. Study all the theorems also. Listen to the class attentively. When learning Maths, always have a pen and note book. Be thorough with the entire text book. Work out the sums even 100 times if it is not clear. f. Computer Science Paper Computer is a very special subject. There will be 75 one marks in this paper. After completing each chapter, we must look for the possible one marks. We must read eac and everyline and understand the concepts. We have to attend the 5 mark questions with examples. We have to revise the entire book. There will finding output and debugging. For this, we can do all the exercises given in the book. By this, we can develop our program writing skill. For 1 mark question, first see all options and then write the answer. 9. How important are handwriting and learning to write speedily in the examinations? Is there
anything that a student can do to improve these two aspects?
Handwriting is very important for language papers. Handwriting is the address which refer yo to those who are correcting the papers. Good handwriting is very important. For subject papers, matter is main so we can write speedily. To improve speed, we can and see many model question papaers before exam and we can fix the time for each section.
10. Are there any strict Dos and Donts that you would recommend a student preparing for his or her twelfth standard examinations to adhere to?
DOs
* Regular and since work * Taking maximum efforts for studies * Write and see the important questions * Attend all the exams in the school * Give importance to your teacher's guidelines. Donts * Don't be lazy * Don't watch TV * Don't spend more time for relaxation * Avoid outside functions and recreations * Don't spend more time with your friends and chatting 11. Did your school identify you as a prospective state rank holder early and give any special attention and coaching? How important is the choice of a school in achieving high marks in the examinations?
In SSLC exam, I got the State First Rank. So my school did expect that I would get State Rank in 12th standard surely. But in my school, they treated all the students alike. I think the students who are good in studying wherever they study, they will shine in their life.
12. What was the role of your parents and family in your preparations for your public examinations?
My parents are very supporting in my studies. They will always be encouraging me. I think parents should give correct guidelines to their children. While I was preparing for my exams, my mother will be sitting and studying some story books to give company for me. I think mother should really be a friend to their children. Father should criticise their children's mistakes. They sacrificed a lot of things for me. I am really happy to have such lovable parents.
13. How did you learn about your achieving the state rank in the examinations? What was your reaction when you first heard it?
I had done all my public exams very well so I was expecting state rank. But I aimed for state first. I am very happy to hear that I have secured State Second rank. First I was sad. Afterwords, I realised that it was God given gift, so I was happy.
14. Did you have any time to play any sport, pursue any hobby during your preparation for the public examination?
During the preparation for public exam, there will be no time to pursue any hobby or sport. So it is appreciable to make studying as sour hobby like me.
15. Your life must have changed after achieving the state rank. You must be busy receiving lot of congratulatory messages, awards, recognitions etc. Could you tell your experience since the results were released?
Yes, my life has really changed after my results. I am really proud to win the state rank. But I always follow this saying 'Success should never go to your head, Failure should never go to your heart'. With this, I really try my best to shine in the Engineering field.
Fa 16. Are there any special people you would like to thank for your achievement?
I should faithfully thank God for this achievement. I take this opportunity to thank all my teachers for this success.
17. Tell us about your family.
Father's name: Mr.S. Anguraju - Business
Mother's name: Mrs. A. Sumathi - Home Maker Sister's name: Mrs. N. Lavanya M.Com Sister's Huband: Mr.N. Nirmal Raj MBA (Administrative Officer) Sister's son: N. Shravan Balaji 18. What course have you chosen to pursue after your twelfth standard?
I have preferred the computer field, so I will be taking B.E. Computer Science as my UG degree.
19. Finally, what is your advise to the students who would be taking their public examinations shortly?
I am not giving any advise to the students but I am simply writing what I do for my exams. Be regular in your studies from the beginning. Learn all the lessons in all the subjects with interest. Now in this special 12th std year, before your eyes, these should be only your studies and books. You should sacrifice all other thing.
Don't be tense before exam becuase tension will spoil all your studies. Please consider all exams conducted in the school as public exams becuase then you will give importance and study. If you are doing any repeated mistakes in the exam, please try to rectify the mistakes before the public. You can do a lot of model question papers for all subjects it will reduce your tension before exam. Answer all the questions with all points as given in the text book. Take care of your health. If you want to relax just sleep for sometimes, it will refresh you. Keenly see and learn whereever you are going to lose mark. First revise the entire text book atlast you can see all the PTA question banks only for revision. Give importance to objective and language. Any subject you first understand and then study. First you keep the goal that I should get this (high) mark and thenn learn. You please sacrifice this year for your studies then the world is yours! All the very best! Hitch your wagon to a star!
