1. Congratulations on getting the state rank in the HSC examinations. Was it a surprise when it came
or were you expecting it?
Thank you! I aimed for a merit medical seat in MMC (Madras Medical College) only, so a State
Rank came as a pleasant surprise
2. Many schools and students start their preparation for the twelfth standard examinations while in
the 11th standard itself. When did you start your preparations for the 12th standard public examinations?
We started our preparations only after our 11th exams
3. Was the teaching and materials provided by the school sufficient for your preparations or did you
take any special coaching for any of the subjects?
The teaching and materials provided by the school was sufficient
4. For how many hours per day did you study?
Weekdays: Minimum 5 hours (excluding home work) Weekends: Minimum 12 hours (excluding home work)
5. How was your typical school working day like? How would you allot time for each of your
work?
A school day was naturally tight. I spent more time for main subjects without ignoring the language subjects
6. How was your typical school holiday (weekend etc) like? How would you allot time for each of your
work?
A weekend was filled with assignments throughout the year and record-work (first few months). I alloted more hours on main subjects and also did revision of lessons done during the week
7. Did you approach preparation for each of the subject (Language, English, Physics, Chemistry,
Maths, Biology/Computer Science) differently or was your approach the same to each of the subject?
My approach towards the subjects varied accordingly

f. Biology Paper
* Practise atleast one diagram a day * You can make mind maps while studying human physiology * Repeated learning will help master the scientific names
9. How important are handwriting and learning to write speedily in the examinations? Is there
anything that a student can do to improve these two aspects?
They are like two eyes of a being. Practising handwriting even during board exams (for 10 mins) and writing practise model popers in large numbers will help
10. Are there any strict Dos and Donts that you would recommend a student preparing for his or her twelfth standard examinations to adhere to?
Dos
* Pray constantly for strength and zeal to study * Take model tests * Study regularly * Study subjects with a liking (create passion even if it does not exist
Donts
* Yield in to distractions like TV, Cricket, Cinema etc * Get sick in the wake of exams
11. Did your school identify you as a prospective state rank holder early and give any special attention and coaching? How important is the choice of a school in achieving high marks in the examinations?
DAV Gopalapuram gives equal importance to all students - prospective or not. The choice of school is very important but it is up to the student to receive what is being done to them
12. What was the role of your parents and family in your preparations for your public examinations?
My parents played a role of paramount importance. They gave me the necessary confidence that I could study better, were careful with my diet, missed many pleasures and helped me reach up to this level
13. How did you learn about your achieving the state rank in the examinations? What was your reaction when you first heard it?
I learnt about the news from journalists (the Sun TV). At first, I didn't believe them and pleaded with them to please confirm the news before engaging me in interview
14. Did you have any time to play any sport, pursue any hobby during your preparation for the public examination?
Truthfully, no. I refrained from doing anything that might detract me from academics. But I found time to read inspirational stories and quotes once in a while.
15. Your life must have changed after achieving the state rank. You must be busy receiving lot of congratulatory messages, awards, recognitions etc. Could you tell your experience since the results were released?
I was surrounded by apporximately 15 photographers and reporters, all clicking away madly. Everyone had seen the news and so all our 3 lines of phone were busy on that day. What made me happy was that a lot of small children phone me up and asked "How did you study?", "Did you never watch TV?" etc
16. Are there any special people you would like to thank for your achievement?
Yes and they are -
* Mrs. Alamelu - for here sincere blessings * D.A.V.Principal and teachers * Mr.V.K.Natarajan, my uncle * Ms.Reshma, my sister

18. What course have you chosen to pursue after your twelfth standard?
I have chosen Medical line as my career
19. Finally, what is your advise to the students who would be taking their public examinations shortly?
'Time once lost is lost forever'. Remember that 12th standard is a very important year. If you work hard, you will definitely see the result.
'To receive something is to lose something'. So if you aim for something high, be prepared to give up your temporary pleasures in return for permanent happiness and satisfaction.
